Divi Resorts in Aruba Participate in Soup Drive to Assist with Hurricane Irma Relief

While cleanup continues on several Caribbean islands affected by Hurricane Irma, including St. Maarten, hotels in Aruba are banding together to raise money to assist the Red Cross Aruba in their efforts to help victims of the storm.

Divi Resorts purchased 100 soups for employees as part of Holiday Inn Resort Aruba’s Soup Drive, which took place Friday, September 15. All proceeds from the drive go directly to the Red Cross Aruba.

“We were more than happy to support this effort to help our fellow Divi family in St. Maarten and other hurricane victims,” said Gerrit Griffith, Divi Aruba Phoenix Beach Resort General Manager. “Plus, the soup was delicious, and really brightened up our Friday lunch.”

Divi Resorts Assists Hurricane Irma Relief FEMA Workers in St. Croix

As the Hurricane Irma clean up process begins in The US Virgin Islands, representatives at Divi Carina Bay All-Inclusive Beach Resort & Casino in St. Croix are lending a helping hand by providing housing and meals to relief workers.

Divi Carina Bay and the island of St. Croix escaped Hurricane Irma’s damage mostly unscathed, allowing the resort to reopen for business mere days after the storm. Due to its close proximity to St. Thomas and St. John, St. Croix has quickly become the command center for the recovery process on those islands.

“After Hurricane Irma hit nearby islands, we knew we needed to do our part to help in any way possible,” said Divi Resorts President & COO, Marco Galaverna. “Whether it’s a place to stay or a full belly to start the day, we’re happy to open our doors to these brave men and women, while we continue to host guests.”

Lieutenant Colonel Matt Bartlett, mission commander of the 27th Special Operations Wing force from Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico, says the outstanding support he’s received from the Resort has been invaluable to his team and their recovery efforts.

“Divi’s help has ensured that our force has adequate rest and nourishment as we aggressively work to help our fellow Americans and neighbors impacted by Irma’s devastation,” said Bartlett.

The 72 Airmen on site are assisting those in need by providing capabilities such as search and rescue and personnel recovery, airlift of humanitarian supplies, medical care and aeromedical evacuation – capabilities Bartlett says wouldn’t be possible without Divi’s help and hospitality.

“We would be unable to provide this support if it was not for Divi Resorts and its staff allowing us to get the rest we need to continue to do this work every day that we are here in St. Croix,” Bartlett explained.

Galaverna added that Divi Resorts provides a 20% military discount to all members of the military throughout the year.

“Divi proudly offers one of the largest military discounts in the industry, 365 days a year,” Galaverna said. “Active or retired, and we extend our offer to firefighters and police officers, too.”

Divi Carina Bay Resort remains open for business to guests and will be on hand to help as needed while cleanup continues on St. Croix’s sister islands.

The Insider’s Packing Tips for Caribbean Travel

packing tips for caribbean travelAs “the Caribbean experts,” we at Divi Resorts spend quite a bit of time in the Caribbean. (We know; don’t be jealous! We’re very lucky that our work occasionally involves some palapa time.) We thought we’d share a few packing tips for Caribbean travel that we’ve learned through trial and error. No matter how long your vacation is, or how much you like to bring with you, these hacks will help you maximize your valuable luggage space.

#1 – Keep It Fresh

Pack dryer sheets in your luggage so the smell stays fresh throughout your trip.

#2 – Switch It Up

Bring along clothes and accessories that can serve double duty. For example, a sundress could work as a beach cover-up as easily as a laid-back outfit for a night out.

#3 – Roll It

Roll your clothes tightly rather than folding them. Roll everything you can. It might seem like a small thing, but you’ll be surprised at how much space you’ll save.

#4 – Duffel It

Bring a duffel bag! We like these from Herschel Supply. A duffel bag can serve as a convenient carry-on that easily fits in the overhead compartment—plus, it doubles as a beach bag once you arrive. If you opt for a smaller duffel, you can roll it up inside a larger bag, then take it out and fill it with souvenirs for the return trip.

#5 – Bring Ziplock Bags

No matter what, you’ll always find a reason to use a couple of gallon-sized Ziplock bags during your trip. Whether it’s preserving leftover snacks or storing damp swimsuits in luggage on the trip home (sometimes you can’t help taking one last swim!), you’ll be glad to have them in easy reach.

#6 – Cube It

Packing cubes are your friend—especially if your closet at home looks like a ClosetMaid ad. They’re a great way to keep all your things organized and in their proper place.

#7 – Remember the 3-1-1

Don’t forget the TSA’s requirements on liquids in carry-on bags: you’re allowed to bring liquids in containers that are three ounces or less, kept in one quart-sized bag, limited to one bag per person. This is known as the 3-1-1 rule. To save money, try filling TSA-ready bottles like these with products you already have on hand.

How to Plan a Group Trip with Friends

10

Have you ever thought about traveling to the Caribbean with a dozen or so (or more!) close friends and family members? When you have a major milestone coming up in your life, or if you’ve just received great news, a fantastic way to celebrate is to go on a group trip. You might think group trips involve a staggering amount of planning, but with a little forethought, they’re actually quite manageable—and the discounts you can rack up from traveling as a group are significant. Here are few points to go over before you jet away with your crew to an island escape:

Who’s going, and when?

Who’s on your guest list? Ideally, everyone will get along reasonably well together as a large group—you’ll want to avoid any awkward dinner conversations! Once you’ve decided, it’s easy to settle on dates using an online scheduling tool like Doodle. Simply create a Doodle poll and email it to everyone on your list. You’ll be able to narrow down the best time for the whole gang to travel.

What group rates are available?

Divi Resorts offers great discounts to groups of 10 or more. Call our experienced travel planners at 1-800-801-5550 or email groupsales@diviresorts.com. We’ll see to it that you have everything you need.

Time to book your trip!

It will be easiest for everyone to plan their travel if you settle on dates far in advance. Make sure everyone in your group has a passport!

What do you want to do?

Review the amenities at the resort of your choice, and investigate fun things to do around the island. It’s best to stay flexible, as everyone will likely have slightly different ideas on how they want to spend their time. It’s best to find a couple of “must-dos” ahead of your trip, but don’t forget to leave plenty of time to be spontaneous.

Bon voyage! Here’s to an unforgettable Caribbean getaway with all your BFFs!
