Savor the St. Maarten Beach Lunch

There’s nothing quite like eating lunch on the beaches of St. Maarten. Imagine a juicy, perfectly cooked hamburger and a cold beer or cocktail enjoyed while gazing across the turquoise waters of Little Bay, a fine dusting of sand like powdered sugar still between your toes.  The bright blue lounge chairs and beach umbrellas spread out in front of you as you feel a warm breeze begin to pick up. Gizmo’s Bar & Grill at Divi Little Bay Beach Resort on St. Maarten can give you the beach lunch of your dreams.

Meet Chef Jermain de Rozario at Windows on Aruba

This July and August, Windows on Aruba is pleased to welcome the esteemed Chef Jermain de Rozario, who will present a 3-course lunch and 5-course dinner to its guests.

Chef Jermain de Rozario is a talented young celebrity chef from Holland who, after having worked under Chef Soneil Badhoer from The Lindenhof (2-star Michelin), has now opened his own restaurant, De Rozario. Chef Jermain cooks with his own unique style, crossing boundaries by combining classic recipes with his love of Indonesian flavors.

In the past year, he has been a judge for Top Chef and has received a Bib Gourmand. In Holland, he is currently featured in a television program called De Nieuwe Garde, which follows several of the country’s up-and-coming chefs and sommeliers.

In addition to this recognition, he also recently became a member of the JRE, an association of talented young gastronomes with 350 members and 160 hotels spread across 16 countries: Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, Ireland, Italy, Croatia, Luxembourg, Nederland, Austria, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Windows on Aruba will serve Chef Jermain de Rozario’s 3-course lunch menu for $75 per person on Friday, July 28 and Friday, August 4 at 1 p.m. The lunch will be accompanied by a demonstration by mentalist Guy Bavli, who is currently performing every Thursday and Friday at the Alhambra Casino. Chef Jermain’s 5-course dinner, paired with a selection of wines from local Aruban winery Pepia Est, will be served on Saturday, July 29 and Saturday, August 5 at 7:30 p.m. for $115 per person. The dinner and wine pairing will be accompanied by live jazz.

Chef Jermain will be present at all seatings to explain each dish as it is served. For those interested in securing a reservation to one of these limited seatings, please call 297-523-5017 or email clubhouse@diviresorts.com. Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime culinary opportunity!

Witness “Mango Melee” on St. Croix This Month

mango melee st. croix

If you’re visiting St. Croix in July, you’re in luck. Every Saturday during the month of July, St. Croix locals celebrate tropical fruits (especially the mango) during the Mango Melee. This festival at the St. George Botanical Garden educates the public on home growing techniques and the many ways to use this special fruit. You can even taste the winning recipes from a culinary competition.

To get into the mango spirit, try mixing up this mango mojito recipe from Cruzan® Rum, the major rum producer that has called St. Croix home since the 1800s.

Cruzan® Mango Mojito

Ingredients

1 part Cruzan® Mango Rum
4 chunks of fresh mango
A dash of fresh lime juice
A splash of simple syrup
4-6 mint leaves
Club soda

Muddle mint and mango chunks with simple syrup in a tall glass. Add lime juice, Cruzan® Mango Rum with ice. Stir and top with club soda. Garnish with a mint sprig.

Top Caribbean Summer Destinations for 2017

As you plan your summer vacation, don’t forget about the Caribbean! It’s beautiful part of the world year-round, including in summer. You’ll find all the familiar things you love about the Caribbean—the amazing beaches, cooling tropical breezes and delicious food—and fewer of the things you love a little less. The crowds are thinner in summer, and seasonal hotel rates are lower. Check out a few of the best Caribbean destinations for summer travel, as recommended by the Caribbean Journal: Barbados, Aruba, St. Maarten’s French side and St. Croix.

We love traveling in the Caribbean during summer. It’s the perfect time to take your kids, since they’re out of school. And with the reduced crowds, it can be that much easier to score a palapa on the beach for a day.

Is it time for your family to think Caribbean? What do you enjoy about the Caribbean in summer?

Is Traveling Literally in Your DNA?

A cairn, or stack of rocks, on Aruba.

Were you born to wander? Are you proud of the stamps in your passport? Science says the reason may be hidden in your genes. Several recent scientific articles refer to a “wanderlust gene” that exists in 20 percent of the population. It’s linked with “restlessness and curiosity,” and can lead people to take more risks—including the urge to explore new and different places. You can read more about the wanderlust gene in this article from Conde Nast Traveler. Do you think the thrill of travel is locked into your DNA?
